Brett Rivkind Leads Case On Disney Island Drowning

Comments Off

Below is a press release written by my firm seeking more information about a drowning at Castaway Cay.

Maritime attorney Brett Rivkind wants to know why a man drowned in late February at a private island owned by Disney.

Eugene Son, 38, died after drowning during a snorkeling excursion at a Disney private island. It was, in fact, the second reported drowning incident at the island within 48 hours.

Son’s wife, Cindy, has retained Rivkind, principal at Rivkind & Margulies, P.A., as counsel. Over his career, Rivkind has handled many high-profile cases, and has worked as a maritime attorney for 33 years, even serving as an invited speaker at congressional hearing addressing cruise ship safety and security.

“This is a tragic event; the family has no explanation,” says Rivkind. “Eugene was young, healthy and a good swimmer. The fact that this was the second reported drowning in the same week raises serious questions about the safety of swimming in the area, as well as questions about personnel assigned to monitor the areas.

“In addition, we have questions about the response to the drowning,” continues Rivkind. “Eugene was reported to be breathing and with a heartbeat. He was not airlifted to Jackson Hospital for several hours.”

The Son family just wants answers. They hope this tragedy will help facilitate the placement of additional safety measures so that further tragedies may be prevented.

Rivkind’s firm has requested and awaits information from Disney. “We truly hope they will cooperate in this request,” says Rivkind.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to contact Rivkind’s office at (305) 374-0565.
